Feed reader
A Feed Reader (Engl. As "feed reader" or "InputReader") or aggregator (Engl. As "collector") is a computer program for reading web feeds , mostly in the formats RSS or Atom are offered.
Web feeds are mostly offered by the operators of news sites, blogs and forums to inform about new articles and posts on this website. In this way, the visitor can see whether there are any articles of interest to him, even without explicitly visiting the website. Even podcasts are technically Web feeds. Feed readers that specialize in podcasts are also called "podcatchers" or "podcast clients".
The most common feed formats are RSS and Atom. The data provided in these formats are typically queried by the feed reader software at certain time intervals via an Internet connection. As a result, the information transfer for the user has features of a push medium , although it is technically implemented as a pull medium . Some of these programs are already integrated in the web browser or in an e-mail program , but some external programs are also used to read and manage feeds.
