Reeder is a feed reader for macOS and iOS . It was developed by the Swiss Silvio Rizzi.

Rizzi first programmed an iPhone version of the software. A version for the iPad followed on June 12, 2010 .

In February 2010 Rizzi gave up his position at a Basel web design company in order to concentrate full-time on his software development. In October 2010, the App Store recorded over 100,000 downloads of the iPhone and iPad versions. On December 1, 2010, the first beta version of the shipowner appeared as a desktop version for Mac , on June 9, 2011 the final version 1 came to the Mac App Store .

The shipowner has a minimalist, sober design and operation that is optimized for reading flow. It is a client that could be linked to an account on Google Reader , Readability or Fever and from there loaded and synchronized the subscribed feeds or articles.

With the discontinuation of Google Reader in July 2013, the shipowner's synchronization basis was no longer required. Starting with version 2 for OS X and iOS, the services Feedbin , Feedly , Feed Wrangler , FeedHQ , Inoreader , NewsBlur , Minimal Reader , The Old Reader and BazQux Reader as well as local administration (without synchronization option ) have been added in several expansion steps . Readability and fever were retained. The apps previously available separately for iPhone and iPad have been combined into one universal app. Version 4 of the software was released for macOS and iOS in April 2019. The update integrates u. a. a later reading service, a new reading mode (bionic reading) and new layout options.

The individual articles can be marked with an asterisk and marked as read / unread. The display can take place via the Readability web service which extracts the essential text passages.
