Nina Undercover - Agentin mit Kids is a German action comedy by the production company Dreamtool Entertainment from 2011, produced on behalf of RTL .

action

Nina Wenzel was once the most powerful weapon that the German secret service "Federal Security Service" (BSD for short) had to offer. A smart, tough and intelligent master of espionage with lots of sex appeal, who taught the bad guys of this world fear on the international stage. Her greatest success was the arrest of the globally operating gun dealer Wolf Geiger. However, when Nina's sister and her husband were killed in a traffic accident, everything changed for the top agent: she got out, moved in with her sister's three children and from then on looked after Jasmin, Lukas and baby Jonas. Nina went from being a spy to being a housewife and a mother with a part-time job; no neighbor had any idea of her previous life.

Five years later, Geiger is now to be tried, but shortly before the trial, the unscrupulous gunsmith manages a spectacular escape. Nina's former boss, BSD leader Lieutenant General Husen, sees only one chance: his former best agent has to return to active service undercover. Nina wants to comply with Hussen's request, on one condition: the children must not suffer from it, Nina must continue to be able to look after them. Jasmin is in the middle of puberty, Lukas struggles with being overweight and little Jonas has chronic nonsense on his mind.

Nina returns to the world of espionage and terror and nothing is the same as it used to be - the bad guys are even more evil, the guns even more dangerous and they no longer fit into her bulletproof vest. The balancing act between ironing board and Kalashnikov is hell and Nina has to shoot like the devil, drive like the incarnate, spy, lie, fight and, with all that, be very careful that her cover is not blown. Stupidly, a romance is developing between Nina and her neighbor Ruby, Lukas' German teacher and a true rocker. But she can't tell him either where she disappears at night in black combat suit. Because the threat is greater than ever before: Geiger is planning an attack in the heart of Germany that will shake the foundations of the republic.

production

The television film with the original working title Kung Fu Mama - Agentin mit Kids was funded with a budget of 4 million euros by the Filmstiftung NRW , the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern and the European funding agency MEDIA . The film was shot from June 10th to August 3rd, 2010 on original locations in Cologne , Munich and Wilhelmshaven . The rest of the scenes were created in a studio in Cologne.

In the search for the right line-up, the production company Dreamtool Entertainment wanted to try something new. It was decided to do the casting online. Then an advertisement was sent to all the acting agencies. In a specified period of time, the actors were supposed to play a specific scene from the script and record it with a camera. The recordings were then uploaded to a server and evaluated. The task was to find the cast from over 500 entries. According to the production, such a great response was not expected at the beginning of the casting.

Reviews

"(TV) crime comedy based on well-known models, whose wild plot demands a lot from the heroine."

"James Bond sends his regards: 'Nina Undercover' is a successful agent comedy with a lot of effort and unknown main actors. […] Whereby Rost and Meister dose the satirizing elements so carefully that 'Nina Undercover', like the RTL film 'Undercover Love' shown in December, is not a parody. "

- kino.de

“The TV mix of the family evening series and ' Mission: Impossible ' superlight is outrageous nonsense, of course, but thanks to the speed, action and its agile heroine, entertaining fun. Conclusion: Droll TV spectacle without after-effects "

“You haven't seen so much concentrated dramaturgical incompetence, technical sloppiness and so much mediocrity in front of the camera for a long time. Out of the question as a TV movie. The basic idea is at least suitable for series production. Thin action, stupid gags, zero tension, zero pop factor. "

Awards

The television film was nominated for the 2011 German Comedy Prize in the Best TV Comedy category.
