Ligamentum suspensorium duodeni

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ligamentum suspensorium duodeni (Syn .: Treitz ligament ) is a suspension ligament of the duodenum that extends from the superior mesenteric artery to the transition from the duodenum to the jejunum ( flexura duodenojejunalis ). It contains smooth muscles ( musculus suspensorius duodeni , Treitz muscle), which together with the loop-shaped structure of the ligament can narrow the transition from duodenum to jejunum in the sense of a muscular sphincter muscle.

The Treitz ligament is considered to be the border between the upper and middle part of the gastrointestinal tract .
