Ligurian language (pre-Romanesque)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ligurian is an extinct language from the Mediterranean region . It probably belonged to the Indo-European language family ; after Xavier Delamarre it was a Celtic language .

It was spoken by the ancient European tribe of the Ligurians before being fully assimilated by Celtic and Italian idioms. The extinct Lepont table in northern Italy, which is even considered the oldest demonstrable Celtic dialect, testifies to this . Ligurian is only alive in substrata and can be understood in the names of places, waters and people.

It must not be confused with the Romance Ligurian language spoken in Liguria today.
