Lily (ship)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lily was a two-masted schooner that was rebuilt in 1934 for the filming of " The Mutiny on the Bounty " with Clark Gable and Charles Laughton.

The ship was built in 1882 at the Dickie Brothers shipyard, who also designed the ship, in San Francisco for the shipping company JC Hawley. It had an overall length of 35.20 m; a width of 8.60 m and a maximum draft of 3.72 m. The ship was used in the timber voyage until it was bought in 1934 by the film production company Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , who had it converted into a bounty at the "Wilmington California Shipyard" . After filming for " The Mutiny on the Bounty " ended, it was launched in 1935 in Long Beach, California . The further fate can no longer be determined precisely. According to one source, it is said to have been sunk for the construction of the Long Beach pier, according to another, it was still half-sunk in the 1950s in front of Long Beach.
