The Limbach aircraft engines GmbH , based in Königswinterer district Eudenbach is a German aircraft engine manufacturer . Shuide Chen has been the managing director since January 1st, 2012.
history
The company has been producing piston engines for use in aircraft since the 1970s . Currently (as of August 2012) about 6000 Limbach aircraft engines are in operation, according to the manufacturer. Most of the current engines are approved according to the certification regulation JAR -22 for use in motor gliders and JAR - VLA . Limbach engines are also used in a number of ultralight aircraft . Another area of application are unmanned aircraft (drones) , for which Limbach supplies two- and four-cylinder two-stroke engines .
The engine range covers the power range between 15 kW and 118 kW. All engines are boxer engines , the 4-stroke units are based on the engine of the VW Beetle . However, in the course of the development history, more and more parts were manufactured especially for Limbach, so that the similarity to old VW engines is only given externally. The most powerful versions are additionally cooled with water on the cylinder heads, which are particularly exposed to thermal loads, this offers more uniform heat dissipation and additional noise insulation.
Peter Limbach, at that time still managing director of Limbach Flugmotoren GmbH & Co.KG, wrote to his customers on August 25, 2011, informing his customers of the cessation of operations. Until January 1, 2012, the German-Chinese Shuide Chen took over all company shares and management.
