Linden oak
The linden oak in North Bethesda , Maryland is the largest American white oak in the United States . The oak that germinated in the 1720s probably originally stood on the border between open farmland to the west and the wooded valley of Rock Creek, now Rock Creek Park , to the east. According to the master plan for North Bethesda, it is one of the protected "historic resources".
The oak is located at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Beach Drive at Rock Creek Park. When the Metro of Washington was built, the tracks has been added a special curve to protect the tree.
The status of the largest white oak since 1941 was the Wye Oak , which was located in Wye Oak State Park in the city of Wye Mills , Maryland and which fell on June 6, 2002 in a storm.
