Lindinis Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lindinis Group ( Lindinis Group ) is a group of late antique mosaics from Britain , which have certain similarities, so that it can be assumed that they all come from a single workshop, which is probably based in Lindinis (the modern Ilchester ) would have. Typical of these mosaics is a scheme of four geometric figures that resemble an octagon (two interwoven squares). The framing patterns show meanders - swastika . A rough outer stripe that frames the mosaics on all sides is also typical. A mosaic from theIlchester Mead's Villa Rustica suggests that the workshop operated at the end of the fourth century. A coin from Emperor Valentinian I (364–375 AD) was found under a mosaic .
