The Helmut Lingen Verlag is a book publisher based in Cologne.

history

The history of the Lingen publishing house is inextricably linked with Cologne. Helmut Lingen, born in Cologne in 1927, was a sales and marketing professional. Above all, he knew how to acquire readers for daily newspapers and in the early 1960s he invented a completely new sales concept for books: similar to a book club, but without a subscription, Lingen books (e.g. entertainment novels, cookbooks or advice books) were sold via daily newspapers advertised and sold to readers as cheap special editions - often in large print runs.

What once began with an office on Schildergasse has developed over decades into a media company that was based in Marienburg for a long time and has been at home in Deutz since 2003. To this day, Lingen works closely with daily newspapers, develops and sells books for large retail chains and has built up new business areas: Among other things, the children's book series "Leo Lausemaus". Since 2003 (initially together with Helmut Lingen, since 2013 as sole shareholder), Lingen has been managed by Werner Schulte. In 2016 Helmut Lingen died, who remained connected to his hometown Cologne through the Lingen Foundation established in 1994.
