Link Layer Topology Discovery
Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD), d. H. Link Layer Topology Discovery is a Microsoft Windows - network protocol to grasp, which is used to change the topology of a network and display as well as to analyze the quality of service ( Quality of Service , QoS).
The protocol was developed by Microsoft as part of the Windows Rally technologies and was first used in Windows Vista . There is an update for Windows XP with which Windows XP systems under Vista and Server 2008 can be recognized. A licensed source code version for Linux was also released as part of the Windows Rally Development Kit .
In Windows Vista and Server 2008, the computers and switches are shown in a topology graphic. Network components are shown by small pictograms and provided with the host name as identification. The network connections between the devices are shown by lines. The pictograms can be explored further so that a data pop-up appears showing important network data, e.g. B. MAC address and IP address ( IPv4 and IPv6 ). The LLTD component for Windows XP can only generate IPv4 (not IPv6) information.
