history

LeO 20

The company "Lioré et Olivier" was founded in March 1912 by Fernand Lioré and Henri Olivier. A lion's head with wings and the monogram LeO was used as the company logo . Initially, designs by French aviation pioneers were implemented and two experimental monoplane of their own were built. After the outbreak of World War I , types by Nieuport , Morane-Saulnier and Sopwith were produced under license. In 1919 Lioré et Olivier built his first flying boat , the three-engine biplane LeO H-6. Lioré et Olivier subsequently became known mainly as a manufacturer of flying boats, but the most famous aircraft was the twin-engine LeO 45 medium bomber . Paul Asantchéeff ran the development office in Argenteuil, Marcel Riffard and Edmond Benoit the one in Clichy. The company owned three factories, which were nationalized in 1936. Those in Argenteuil and Clichy were integrated into the SNCASE and those in Rochefort into the SNCASO .
