Lisa Scaffidi , b. Sanders , (born February 12, 1960 in Perth ) is the first female mayor of the city of Perth, Western Australia .

Life

Scaffidi attended Churchlands Elementary School and Methodist Ladies' College. She then studied dentistry at the WA Institute of Technology (now Curtin University ). She worked as a flight attendant at Trans Australia Airlines in 1980, later in the hospitality industry in a marketing role, and in the 1990s she helped promote the export of gemstones . She was WA state director of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) for over 10 years .

Scaffidi won the seat in the local council elections in October 2007 after the departure of her predecessor, Peter Nattrass , who had previously held this office for a record 12 years since 1995. She served two terms as a councilor before successfully applying for Lord Mayor of Perth-City. She sees her role as a full time job and aims to maximize accessibility for the constituents. She successfully ran for re-election in October 2011 and 2015 and is now in her third term of office. She and the Perth City Council have been suspended since March 2, 2018.

She has been married to businessman Joe Scaffidi since 1992.
