Lisos (also Lissos ; Greek Λισός, among writers also Λισσός, Latin Lissus , in the Tabula Peutingeriana Liso ) was an ancient city on the south coast of Crete , between the present-day towns of Paleochora in the west and Sougia in the east.

The city has only been mentioned in written sources since the 3rd century, but according to the archaeological remains it was settled since classical times. In the late 4th and 3rd centuries Lisos was a member and probably even the capital of an alliance with the neighboring cities of Tarrha , Poikilasion , Elyros , Hyrtakina , Syia and other smaller cities. The alliance called "Oreioi" was from 280 to 250 BC. Allied with Magas , king of Cyrene . 221/220 BC The Oreioi fought against Knossos in the Lycian War . Lisos was probably the seat of a bishopric until the 9th century AD.

In the place, which can only be reached by sea and hiking trails, the remains of an asclepion with mosaics, an aqueduct and Roman thermal baths have been preserved. A theater and the remains of early Christian basilicas were also discovered. A large number of sculptures were also found in Lisos, mainly depicting the deities Asclepius or Hygieia .
