The Lista Monumentelor Istorice , abbreviated LMI , (German: Directory of Historical Monuments), is the official directory of the cultural property of the Republic of Romania . The LMI code refers to the code by which the historical monuments are clearly marked, which were included in the official list of historic monuments, and in accordance with the adopted in 2001 Law no. 422/2001 as historical monuments under preservation are.

LMI codes since 2004

In the 2004, 2010 and 2015 versions, the LMI code is structured in a fixed order according to the following criteria:

  • 1st position: the official identification of the district with two capital letters according to ISO 3166-2: RO , (for example CJ = Cluj district , SB = Sibiu district )
  • 2nd digit: a Roman numeral for the type of monument according to the established scheme
  • 3rd position: a lower case letter defines the area of the protected position, with stands
    • m for the single monument
    • a for the entire ensemble
    • s for the archaeological field
  • 4th position: a capital letter describes the meaning of the monument according to the scheme
    • A = Monument of National Interest
    • B = monument of regional importance
  • 5th digit: a clearly assigned ordinal number according to the scheme 00000.00, whereby the two digits behind the point describe an individual monument within a monument ensemble.

Older LMI codes

Until the introduction of the LMI code in 2004, a different coding was common, which is no longer used, but can of course still be found in the older literature. This so-called directory from 1992 divided the monument numbers according to the scheme XXY0000, whereby the first two letters stood for the district and the third letter for the meaning of the monument and a clear ordinal number was appended.
