The Art Academy of Iceland ( isl . : Listaháskóli Íslands ) in Reykjavík is the only art school in Iceland and provides an artistic education at university level. It was founded on September 21, 1998 and is currently headed by its Rector Hjálmar H. Ragnarsson.

The range of courses is divided into the five subject areas of fine arts, theater and dance, music, design and architecture, and art education. The university has three different locations in the Reykjavík metropolitan area. Music, theater and dance are housed in the building on Sölvhólsgata, design and architecture on Skipholt. The Fine Arts building is just outside, near the Laugarnes recreation area.

At the moment it is only possible to obtain a master’s degree in music and art education. The other courses are shown as Bachelor courses.

Teaching

The academy has set itself the task of promoting progressive thinking and promoting innovation and development in the various areas. The art school offers university-level art education and imparts knowledge and professionalism in art to the Icelandic population.
