List of honorary citizens of Erlenbach am Main

The honorary citizenship is the highest honor that the Lower Franconian town of Erlenbach am Main can forgive. According to Article 16, Paragraph 1 of the Municipal Code for the Free State of Bavaria, the city can appoint honorary citizens who have made a special contribution to it.

Since 1883, the following eleven people have been made honorary citizens.

  1. Friedrich Dessloch
    District forester
    Awarded in 1883
    Dessloch was the district forester in Erlenbach from 1838 to 1883. On the occasion of his departure he was made the city's first honorary citizen.
  2. Adam Zöller
    mayor
    Awarded in 1924
    Zöller was first mayor from 1899 to 1924. When he left office, the city thanked him for his services by awarding him honorary citizenship.
  3. Linus Balling
    Teacher, church clerk
    Awarded in 1928
    Balling served 25 years as a teacher and parish clerk in the parish of Mechenhard.
  4. Martin Henkel
    Pastor
    Awarded in 1951
    Henkel was a pastor in Mechenhard.
  5. Josef Fuchs
    Former Mayor
    Awarded in 1953
    Fuchs was mayor of the municipality of Streit.
  6. Alois Kirchgäßner
    Spiritual advice
    Awarded in 1958
    Kirchgäßner was a pastor in the Mechenhard community.
  7. Justin Kirchgäßner
    mayor
    Awarded in 1964
    Kirchgäßner was the city's first mayor from 1952 to 1964. On the occasion of his resignation from office, he was granted honorary citizenship.
  8. Walter Gammert
    Merchant
    Awarded in 1967
    Gammert was Commercial Director of Glanzstoff AG.
  9. Ottmar Sauerwein

    Awarded in 1978
    Sauerwein was mayor of the municipality of Streit.
  10. Alois Kirchgäßner

    Awarded in 1988
    Kirchgäßner was the city's first mayor from 1964 to 1988. He was made an honorary citizen on the occasion of his resignation from office.
  11. Anton Wegstein
    Pastor
    Awarded in 2008
    Wegstein was pastor in Erlenbach for 38 years.
