List of world speed skating champions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of world speed skating champions presents all known world speed skating champions since 1889 . At first only all-round world championships for men were held, since 1933 these have also been held for women. In 1936 the International Skating Union (ISU) took over the organization. Because of the Second World War, there were no world championships from 1940 to 1946. Since 1970, world championships in sprint all-around competitions have been organized by the ISU, and since 1996 world championships have also been held on individual routes from 500 to 10,000 meters. The three championships take place on different dates in different locations.
