The International Skating Union (Engl. International Skating Union short ISU ) is the international governing body for speed skating and figure skating . The ISU was founded in 1892 in Scheveningen , the Netherlands , and is the oldest winter sports federation. It is currently based in Lausanne , Switzerland .
history
During the second half of the 19th century, speed skating and figure skating competitions were occasionally organized in different parts of the world. With the appearance of international competitions in both speed skating and figure skating, as well as the establishment of ice skating clubs and national associations, it was urgently necessary to develop international standards and rules. In July 1892, the Dutch Ice Skating Club convened a meeting for all countries interested in international ice skating competitions. The congress in Scheveningen followed , during which the ISU was founded.
