This is a list of the number one hits on Billboard's Most Played Juke Box Folk Records (Hillbillies, Spirituals, Cowboy Songs, etc.) and Best Selling Retail Folk Records in the United States in 1949 December 1949, the Country & Western Records Most Played By Folk Disk Jockeys were collected on a weekly basis, calculated on the basis of the numbers played by over 400 leading disc jockeys from the country / western genre. These charts are considered to be the predecessors of the Hot Country Songs introduced in 1958 . There were fourteen number one songs that year.
