George Morgan (born June 28, 1924 in Waverly , Tennessee , † July 7, 1975 ) was an American country singer who was best known for the hit Candy Kisses in the late 1940s . He is the father of country singer Lorrie Morgan .

George Morgan, who grew up in Ohio , began his career at radio station WWVA, where he appeared in its famous World's Original Jamboree . In 1948 he signed a record deal with the Columbia label. With his first single Candy Kisses he had his commercial breakthrough in 1949. The self-composed song made it to number one on the country charts, where it was only ousted after four weeks by Hank Williams ' Lovesick Blues . In the same year, Morgen had a number of other top 10 hits, including Room Full Of Roses , which reached number five.

In the Grand Ole Opry , "Candy Kid" took the place of Eddy Arnold , who, like himself, was known for his romantic ballads. Morgan only had his next hit in 1952, when Almost moved up to number three. It was mainly his regular appearances in the Grand Ole Opry that kept him in the public eye. From 1956 he interrupted his engagement for three years to take over a television show for a local broadcaster. His last big hit was in 1959 with I'm in Love Again .

After that, Morgan changed labels several times, but could no longer build on his old successes. In the mid-sixties it appeared in the top 100 several times. But he remained connected to the Opry. His daughter Lorrie, born in 1959, made her debut here in 1974 . George Morgan did not live to see his daughter's career because he died on July 7, 1975 of a heart attack.

In 1979 Lorrie Morgan had a hit with I'm Completely Satisfied With You , in which the voice of her late father was mixed in to a duet. In 1998 George Morgan was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame .
