Lorrie Morgan
Lorrie Morgan (* 27. June 1959 as Loretta Lynn Morgan in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American country singer.
Beginnings
As the daughter of country musician and Grand Ole Opry star George Morgan (1924–1975), Lorrie came into contact with the music business at an early age. At the age of 13 she was on the stage of the Opry for the first time. She was celebrated with a standing ovation for her song Paper Roses , a defining moment for the young singer. After the early death of her father, she tried to continue his career with musicians from his former backing band. Years of tinkering through the club scene began.
Eventually she moved to Nashville, where she found employment as a songwriter and demo singer with the renowned Acuff-Rose publishing house. Starting in 1979, the publisher's own Hickory label recorded a few singles that made it to the bottom of the top 100. A duet with her late father was produced electronically - I'm Completely Satisfied With You only reached number 93 on the country charts. Their first marriage failed. In 1986 she married the country musician Keith Whitley , who was under contract with RCA. Although she now appeared regularly in the Grand Ole Opry, there was little progress in her career. It wasn't until 1988 that she received a record deal from the RCA label.
Career
Her first album, You Can Leave The Light On , was released in 1989. Several singles were released in the top 10 and top 20. With Five Minutes , she had her first number one hit in 1990. A song they recorded with her husband was named Vocal Event of the Year by the Country Music Association . Tragically, Keith Whitley died of alcohol poisoning in mid-1989.
Unaffected by Morgan's private problems, her career took off. Her second RCA album, Something In Red , was her ultimate commercial breakthrough. It stayed on the country album charts for over a year and went platinum. The released single What Part Of No made it to number one. The success was repeated with the next album. Watch Me , produced on the BNA label, achieved platinum status and the title track moved up to number one on the country charts.
Her next albums also reached high chart positions, but the singles were less successful. It was not until 1995 that another number one hit, I Didn't Know My Own Strength , could be booked. In 1996 she covered the hit Don't Worry Baby with the Beach Boys for the album Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 . Her private life continued to be characterized by turbulence. In early 1992 she declared personal bankruptcy . There were also serious health problems. Shortly after her third marriage, her uterus had to be removed. Only a little later, she caused a stir with her relationship with the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys . In 1997 she married Jon Randall, who was ten years her junior . The marriage ended in divorce just two years later. The duet By My Side , produced with Randall , made it into the top 20.
Her next albums and singles were also successful, even if the previous sales figures could no longer be fully achieved. In 2001 Morgan married her country colleague Sammy Kershaw . This marriage was anything but happy either. There were public fights and mutual criminal charges. A divorce petition was withdrawn. In 2001, Lorrie Morgan and her husband produced a duo album together, which contains Morgan's last top 40 hit He Drinks Tequila . The singer then lost her long-term contracts with BNA / RCA and signed with the independent label Image. The following albums, however, flopped. In 2006 she appeared on the Barbara Mandrell tribute album She Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool . In autumn 2008 she announced that she was in financial difficulties and had to file for private bankruptcy because she could no longer meet billions in the millions. The following album, A Moment in Time , was released in October 2009 on the Stroudavarious label and contains 14 covers of traditional country hits. In 2010 she played the role of Lula on Broadway on the show Pure Country . On September 15, 2010, she married her sixth husband, Randy White, a former well-known football player.
On June 21st and 22nd, 2011, she gave a concert at the Four Courners Music Hall in Untermeitingen on her first visit to Germany.
Since 2009 she has performed as a duo with Pam Tillis , the daughter of country singer Mel Tillis . So far, two albums have been made: Grits And Glamor: Dos Divas (2013) and Come See Me and Come Lonely (2017). Both go on tour together.
