List of commanders in chief of the Cypriot National Guard
The Commander in Chief of the Cypriot National Guard ( Greek Αρχηγός Εθνικής Φρουράς ) is a military person with the rank of lieutenant general and heads the Cypriot National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus . The commander in chief is always an officer of the Greek armed forces .
The Greek Chief of Staff and the Greek Council of Ministers decide on the occupation of the supreme command. In July 2016, for example, it was not possible to agree on a successor, for this reason it was decided that Georgios Basiakoulis should accompany the office for another 8 months.
