"LitPol Link"

LitPol Link is a two-circuit three-phase line between Lithuania and Poland with a capacity of 500 MW, which can be increased to 1000 MW. It connects the power grid of Lithuania , which is not synchronized with the UCTE network, with Poland. In Alytus, it is linked to the Lithuanian power grid via an HVDC close coupling and was discussed for about ten years. In December 2015 "LitPol Link" was officially opened. Since the shutdown of the Ignalina nuclear power plant , Lithuania has been dependent on Russian imports. The 400 kV overhead line runs from the Alytus HVDC close coupling at Kruonis in Lithuania to the Elk Bis substation in Poland . Of the total of 163 km of pipeline, 112 km are in Poland and 51 km in Lithuania.
