Liu Hao

Liu Hao ( Chinese  刘浩 , Pinyin Líu Hào ; * 1968 in Shanghai ) is a sixth generation Chinese film director .

After graduating from the Beijing Film Academy , Liu worked as a journalist in Shanghai and Hong Kong . His first film, Chen Mo and Mei Ting ( Chinese  沉默 和美 婷 , Pinyin Chénmò hé Měi Tíng , 2002) was not approved by the authorities in China and could therefore only be shown abroad. At the Berlinale , he received an award for best first film by a director.

Liu's second film, Two Great Sheep ( Chinese  好 大一 对 羊 , Pinyin Hǎo Dà Yī Duì Yáng , 2004) was initially approved by the relevant authorities. After it was broadcast on the Chinese state television, China Central Television , it was banned from showing the film in Chinese cinemas. The film was shown at several foreign film festivals.
