Liu Jian (artist)

Liu Jian ( Chinese  刘健 , Pinyin Liú Jiàn ; * 1969) is a Chinese artist, animator and film director .

Life

Liu Jian studied Chinese landscape painting at Nanjing University of the Arts and graduated in 1993. His artistic work takes up different aesthetic approaches with different media and has been presented at international exhibitions.

Since 1995 he has also been working in animation until he founded the animation studio Le-joy in 2007. His first feature- length film Piercing I ( 刺痛 我 , Citong wo ) had its world premiere at the Holland Animation Film Festival and received awards at numerous film festivals.

At the 2017 Berlinale , his film Hao ji le ( 好 极 了 , dt. Have a nice day ) was the first animated film in 15 years to be invited to the competition for the Golden Bear , but it received no award.

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
