Live Anywhere

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Live Anywhere is an initiative launched by Microsoft to network Windows , the Xbox 360 and the Microsoft Zune MP3 player .

history

Live Anywhere was presented by Bill Gates in November 1999 at the E3 trade fair as a future component of the Windows Vista operating system .

In May 2006 it was presented at E3 as a link between Xbox 360, mobile phone and PC.

Live Anywhere technology was introduced with the release of Windows Vista on January 30, 2007 and was first supported by Shadowrun .

Success and failure

The initiative can now be viewed as a failure, as the features advertised by Microsoft, such as cross-platform multiplayer in Halo 2 , were not implemented, only support a hand of games Live Anywhere and Microsoft no longer uses the term itself.

Overall, only the following Xbox 360 titles offer cross-platform multiplayer with Live Anywhere:

Even if the cross-platform multiplayer advertised as the main feature was hardly used, the actual idea behind Live Anywhere, namely the networking of PC and Xbox 360, was largely implemented. With Games for Windows Live there is a Windows equivalent to Xbox Live, whereby both platforms share the accounts , i. H. an Xbox Live account is also a Games for Windows Live account. There are also cross-platform friend lists, chats and achievements. In addition, both platforms use Microsoft Points as a means of payment for game content.
