The Llynnau Mymbyr [ ˌɫ̩ənaɨ ˈməmbɪr ] are two lakes connected by a canal in Dyffryn Mymbyr , a valley in Snowdonia National Park in northwest Wales . The town of Capel Curig connects directly to the northeast, the A4086 road to Caernarfon runs along the north bank.

The maximum depth of the lakes is 10 meters. They lie in a 1.2 kilometer long trough, which is formed by a ring of sandstone, the so-called Capel Curig Volcanic Formation . The volcanic rocks of Moel Siabod tower on the south side of the lakes. A dam in the middle of the lakes cuts the original lake into two parts, which are still connected by a canal that is no more than 35 meters wide. Therefore, instead of the singular Llyn Mymbyr, the plural form llynnau is used. The lakes are fed by the Nantygwryd River (Nant-y-gwryd), which rises from the Llyn Cwm-y-ffynnon . At Capel Curig it flows into the Llugwy River .

In the past, people used to fish and practice diving at the lake. Today canoeing courses are held by Plas y Brenin and other local institutions .
