Loch Ranza is a small bay on the north coast of the Scottish island of Arran . The approximately 1.4 km deep and a maximum of 800 m wide bay is located on Kilbrannan Sound , which separates the island of Arran from the Kintyre peninsula , and runs in a south-southeast direction. At the head of the bay near the village of Lochranza , the small river Ranza flows into the bay. At the western entrance to the bay there is a ferry pier that is served by the regular ferry to Claonaig on Kintyre. The ruins of the medieval Lochranza Castle lie on a headland on the west coast .
