The Hamburg Logistics Initiative is a cluster initiative for the logistics and logistics-related economy based in the Hamburg metropolitan region.

history

The initiative was founded in 2006 as a public private partnership and is supported by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg as well as companies and institutions that are part of the Logistik-Initiative Hamburg e. V. have merged. On the government side, the members are supported by the Hamburg Authority for Economy, Transport and Innovation (BWVI) and the HWF Hamburgische Gesellschaft für Wirtschaftsförderung mbH. With currently around 540 member companies and institutions from industry, trade, services as well as research & development and numerous public institutions, the Hamburg Logistics Initiative is the largest network of locations in the logistics and transport sector in Europe. She was awarded the EU Gold Label "Cluster Management Excellence" for the quality of her work.

The aim of this public-private partnership is to further expand the role of the Hamburg metropolitan region as the leading logistics metropolis in Northern Europe and to support logistics-related companies and institutions. A board of trustees of high-ranking logistics experts accompanies the work of the initiative and the logistics network from business, politics, science and research. The Hamburg Logistics Initiative bundles the ideas, requirements and interests of the member companies.

The main fields of action of the Hamburg Logistics Initiative are logistics-friendly commercial space and transport infrastructure, location profiling, innovation and technology, personnel and qualification, sustainability and a competence network.

Workshops, working groups and conferences are regularly organized on all topics in order to systematically improve knowledge in the region about industry-relevant developments. A current focus is on promoting innovations and new technologies with the aim of driving digital transformation , making the location fit for the future and creating new jobs.

As part of various competitions, the Hamburg Logistics Initiative honors the logistics industry for innovative ideas and sustainable projects. With the "HanseGlobe - Hamburg's international prize for sustainable logistics" - the Hamburg Logistics Initiative has been honoring sustainable projects that have already been implemented or are currently being implemented since 2007. Young people are also supported. Since 2010, the Hamburg Logistics Initiative has been presenting the "Young Professionals' Award Logistics" for student theses with practical relevance.
