Lokris ( ancient Greek Λοκρίς Lokris , modern Greek Λοκρίδα Lokrida ) is an ancient region in central Greece . It consists of two separate areas: the eastern Lokris ( Lokris Eoia or Lokris Opuntia ), which extends from Thermopylae along the Gulf of Euboia to Larymna, and the western Lokris ( Lokris Ozolia ) on the north coast of the Corinthian Gulf around the strategically important port city of Naupaktos .

The territories of Doris and Phocis lie between the two Locrian areas . The division of the Lokrians into two areas is probably due to events in the early settlement history of Greece. The division into two parts and the fact that the Lokrian areas were also not very fertile meant that the Lokris only played a minor role in Greek history and were mostly dominated by more powerful neighboring states.
