The London Canal Museum is located in London , England , in the district of Kings Cross . It is a local museum about the history of London's canals.

In contrast to the state museums, the London Canal Museum charges an entrance fee of £ 5 for adults and half for children (as of 2018).

history

The museum opened in 1992. It is housed in a former Victorian ice warehouse, which was previously used by Carlo Gatti . The building was constructed between 1862 and 1863 to store ice that was imported from Norway via ships and barges . In the building there are two preserved ice stores, one of which can be visited.

Exhibitions and activities

The exhibition covers the entire area of the waterways of the United Kingdom from.

The museum does a nightly presentation every month, some summer family activities, guided tours along towpaths and the Islington Tunnel . The museum supports two ships at the National Waterways Museum , which are part of the national collection. The London Canal Museum financially supports the Boat Museum Society, a volunteer organization that helps the National Waterways Museum restore and maintain historic ships. The two ships maintained by the London Canal Museum are the Ferrett and the Ilkeston .

The museum is located in the Kings Cross area of London on Regent's Canal . The Battlebridge Basin at the rear can be reached via the museum. The museum is about five minutes' walk from the London Underground -Station King's Cross St Pancras station.
