The London conference was an international follow-up conference to the previous Berlin conference on the standardization of maritime radio and in 1912 made the SOS radio emergency signal binding. The sinking of the Titanic had drastically demonstrated the need for action. This memorable Morse code was proposed by the German Hans Bredow at the first conference on October 3, 1909 in Berlin .
