The Long Sơn Pagoda (Vietnamese: Chùa Long Sơn ) is a Buddhist temple in the city of Nha Trang (central south coast of Vietnam ). The temple is regarded as one of the main attractions of the city , along with the Hai Duc Temple . The Long Sơn Pagoda is located at Straße des 23 Oktober 1922 (approx. 400 m west of Ga Nha Trang ). The pagoda stands at the foot of the Trại Thủy mountain and is owned by Phương Sơn.

history

The Long Sơn Pagoda was previously called Đăng Long Tự.

Thích Ngộ Chí (1856–1935) had the Long Son Pagoda originally built on another mountain in 1886. Thích Ngộ Chí originally came from the Vinh Xuong district in Khánh Hòa . Before joining the sangha , he was part of the anti-French forces that wanted to regain Vietnamese independence.

After a strong hurricane in 1900, the temple was destroyed and had to be rebuilt from its original mountain to its current location. In 1936 the temple became the headquarters of the Buddhist Studies Association of Khanh Hoa Province. In 1940 the temple was renovated and expanded under the direction of Thích Tôn Thất Quyền and a Buddhist layman named Võ Đình Thụy. In 1968 the temple was again badly damaged. The roof tiles in particular were destroyed by the Vietnam War. In 1971, Thích Thiện Bình organized a rebuilding program to restore the temple. The work was carried out in consultation with the architect Võ Đình Diệp and was already 60% complete when it was interrupted by the fall of Saigon and the communist victory over South Vietnam .

Since its inception, the temple has had a stable spiritual leadership with only three abbots in over 120 years: Thích Ngộ Chí (1886–1935), Thích Chánh Hóa (1936–1957) and Thích Chí Tín (1957–).
