Economy: fishing and tourism

Fishing and tourism are the city's most important economic pillars. In addition, the Van Phong deep-water and transshipment port is currently being built north of the city .

The fishing port of Nha Trang in the north of the city is home to a small fishing fleet. The fishermen catch at night and return to Nha Trang in the morning. Since Nha Trang is in the catchment area of the autumn typhoons , fishing must be stopped in the months of October to November.

Nha Trang is known as Vietnam's tourist center. The French colonial rulers already appreciated the beautiful beaches and called Nha Trang the 'Nice of the East'. Kilometers of sandy beaches and many Situated in the Bay Islands and coral reefs invite you to swim. From these natural conditions a tourist center of Vietnam has developed there. On the city beach along the promenade on Tran Phu Boulevard there are numerous restaurants, beach bars and hotels. The main tourist attraction of Nha Trang are the Cham towers Thap Ba Ponagar in the north of the city. This is one of the most important Cham sites in Vietnam. The buildings have been extensively renewed over the past few years without destroying their character. From the southern end of Trang Phu Boulevard the Vinpearl Cable Car travels approx. 60 m above the ground to Hon Tre Island ( bamboo island ), three kilometers away , on which there are extensive tourist facilities.

The area around Nha Trang is good for sailing. This is due to its long coastline, calm seas, good wind and the coastal islands like Hon Tre, Hon Yen and Hon Rua. For snorkelers and divers, however, the reason is sometimes very heavily polluted by plastic bags , cans and other rubbish. The fish stocks have been decimated by dynamite fishing , which is still practiced today . The coral bleaching has not yet taken hold and allegedly registered 350 species are counted more than in all the Caribbean together. Many rare fish species are said to be commonplace here, but there are no large fish.
