Thanh Thai Nguyen (born April 7, 1953 in Nha Trang , Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese-American clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Orange, California .

Life

Thanh Thai Nguyen joined the Josephinians of St. Leonardo Murialdo and began his studies at the University of Đà Lạt . After the communist regime in Vietnam banned his religious community and prevented his studies, he fled his homeland in 1979 and reached the United States in 1980. At Hartford State Technical College , Hartford , he trained as a teacher of math and science. In 1984 he joined the Community of Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette , continued his theological studies and made perpetual profession on September 19, 1990 . On May 11, 1991, he received the sacrament of ordination .

After ordination, he served in various parishes in the states of Georgia and Florida in pastoral care. He later left the order and was incardinated on June 29, 1999 in the clergy of the diocese of Saint Augustine . He then continued to work in Jacksonville , since 2014 as pastor of the parish of Saint Joseph .

On October 6 2017 Pope appointed him Francis to the titular of Acalissus and auxiliary bishop in Orange, California. He was ordained episcopal on December 19 of that year by the Bishop of Orange in California, Kevin Vann . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Saint Augustine, Felipe de Jesús Estévez , and the Bishop of Birmingham , Robert Joseph Baker .
