Lordi Square
The Lordi Square ( Finnish : Lordin aukio ) is the central square of Rovaniemi , capital of Finnish province of Lapland . It is located in the center of a small pedestrian zone in the center of Rovaniemi at the intersection of Koskikatu and Maakuntakatu streets. The Sampokeskus shopping center, built in 1989, is located on Lordi Square .
Originally known as "Sampo Square" ( Sampo-aukio ), the square was renamed "Lordi Square" in June 2006. The occasion was the victory of the hard rock band Lordi at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 , whose singer Mr. Lordi (Tomi Putaansuu) comes from Rovaniemi.
