The Roman Catholic Loreto Chapel in Tettnang was built between 1624 and 1627 during the Thirty Years War .

history

Loreto chapels were built in the 17th and 18th centuries throughout the European area of the Catholic faith. They are structurally based on the Santa Casa in the Italian pilgrimage site of Loreto and are places of worship of Mary . The Loreto Chapel in Tettnang is probably the oldest in Baden-Württemberg. In 1624, the Countess Johanna Euphrosina von Montfort , born von Waldburg-Wolfegg, founded a holy house on the basis of a vow .

Countess Euphrosina von Montfort had the Loreto Chapel in Tettnang built in 1624. The small church was consecrated in 1627. In 1738 a chaplaincy was donated to the chapel.

In 2012 the Loreto Chapel was extensively renovated.

Architecture and equipment

In the middle of the hall church stands the 140 centimeter high Madonna figure surrounded by a halo above the altar . Their richly decorated robes are said to have been made by Countess Johanna von Monfort herself. An iron grating with two doors, like an iconostasis , separates the most sacred area from the prayer room. The coats of arms of those of Montfort and Waldburg-Wolfegg are on the grille. The ceiling is rounded, modeled on the Holy House in Nazareth. There is a mystical darkness in the room, because only a few rays of light penetrate the interior from the gallery. Over the course of four centuries the chapel has been renovated again and again. The last renovation took place in 2012, when a new roof structure was erected over the roof from the construction period. Outside the chapel is surrounded by a covered walkway. A roof turret draws attention to the sacred building.
