The Loreto Chapel in Thyrnau

The Loreto Chapel Thyrnau is a Loreto chapel in Thyrnau in the district of Passau .

The Thyrnau court lord Urban Schätzl built a Lady Chapel in Thyrnau in 1622, which Prince Bishop Johann Philipp von Lamberg had converted into a true to original Loreto chapel in 1699. In addition, an oratory was built in the west . The painting on the outside, which mainly shows scenes from the life of Mary, was done around 1700.

The parish church of St. Franz Xaver and the parsonage were built between 1765 and 1769 from the pilgrims' money. Since both the chapel and the neighboring parish church only had a small turret, a tower was initially planned between the church and the rectory, but in 1891 the church administration applied for a tower to be built for the Loreto chapel. This began in the summer of 1893 in the neo-baroque style according to plans by the building department assistant Schildbauer and was finished in 1894.

The bell house under the tower was converted into a chapel in 1895. It contains a Lourdes grotto and a representation of the stigmatization of St. Francis of Assisi . In 1973 the weathered Madonna on the roof was replaced by a faithful replica.
