Los Angeles Free Press Festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Los Angeles Free Press Festival took place on April 20, 1969 in Venice, Los Angeles . The organizer was the underground magazine Los Angeles Free Press , which celebrated its birthday with a free festival.

Performing bands and musicians included Country Joe and the Fish , Spirit , the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Taj Mahal . In between there were various political speeches, especially in the spirit of the “Anti-War Movement”. There was a strong police presence to secure the event.

When a bottle flew, the police intervened. A riot broke out in no time, numerous visitors and police officers were injured, and over 100 spectators were arrested. The festival was canceled by the police.

The next day, the police reported that there had been public sexual acts that the police wanted to stop. Likewise, action should be taken against the drug abuse taking place. The police forces were then massively attacked.
