Los Straitjackets

Los Straitjackets are an American surf rock band from Nashville , Tennessee . The band formed in 1988 with the line-up Eddie Angel ( guitar ), Jimmy Lester ( drums ) and Danny Amis (guitar).

biography

After a few appearances in the summer of 1988 under the name "The Straitjackets", the band members only played together again in 1994 under the name "Los Straitjackets", supplemented by bassist Scott Esbeck. In July 1994 the first demo tape was recorded in the studio "Alex the Great" in Nashville. The recordings were the basis for the first Straitjackets album The Utterly Fantastic and Totally Unbelievable Sound of Los Straitjackets , which was released in March 1995 on "Upstart Records".

In the following years the band gained cult status in the USA. When performing, all band members wear black costumes with gold medallions and Mexican wrestling masks. Danny Amis is the band's spokesperson at concerts. He presents songs in quick, poorly accented Spanish.

In 1998 Esbeck left the band while recording the album The Velvet Touch of Los Straitjackets and was replaced by Pete Curry. In 2005 Lester was replaced by Jason Smay, who later switched to JD McPherson's band. Chris Sprague now occupies his seat.

Danny Amis fell ill with cancer in 2011, whereupon several tours without him followed. Amis was finally able to return to the band in mid-2012 to record the album Jet Set , which was released in 2012.
