Luceafărul ( The Evening Star ) is one of the most famous works by the Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu . The poem was first published in 1883 in Almanahul societății studențeşti România jună in Vienna, then also in Convorbiri literare .

The love between the immortal star and a princess is portrayed in the poetic work . Eminescu wrote to Luceafărul for eight years .

The poem is based on the German publication of a Romanian folk tale by Richard Kunisch, Bucharest and Stambul. Sketches from Hungary, Romania and Turkey , Berlin (1861). Eminescu came across this story in Berlin, where he began working on the subject under the title Fata-n grădina de aur as early as 1873/74 . In 1882, after Eminescu had read “Luceafãrul” in the Junimea circle, Mite Kremnitz translated it into German.

Luceafărul is considered the longest love poem by the World Record Academy with its 98 stanzas .
