Lucius Baebius Iuncinus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lucius Baebius Iuncinus (full name form Lucius Baebius Luci filius Galeria Iuncinus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st century AD . Individual stations of his career are known through an inscription. His career is shown in the inscription in ascending order.

Iuncinus was initially Praefectus fabrum . This was followed by his military career, which consisted of the usual tres militiae for a member of the equestrian order . He initially took over the management of the Cohors IIII Raetorum as prefect . He then became a tribune in the Legio XXII Deiotariana , which was stationed in the province of Aegyptus . The final was formed by the command as prefect of an Ala Astyrum ; this is probably the Ala I Asturum , which was stationed in Moesia inferior .

After finishing his military career, Iuncinus first became prefect of transport ( praefectus vehiculorum ); this post was linked to an annual income of 100,000 sesterces . After that he was iuridicus Aegypti ; this post was associated with an annual income of 200,000 sesterces.

Iuncinus was inscribed in the Tribus Galeria ; he probably came from Messana , today's Messina , where his inscription was found. One of his descendants, Lucius Baebius Aurelius Iuncinus , became Prefect of Egypt in 211/213.
