Lucius Vibius Apronianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lucius Vibius Apronianus was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 2nd century AD .

Individual stations of his career are known through an inscription on a tombstone that was found near Castel Madama and which is dated to 176/225. Apronianus served as a tribunus militum in one or more legions, but they are not mentioned in the inscription. He then took on two civil functions in the administration. His first position was that of adiutor alvei Tiberis et cloacarum . This was followed by the office of Procurator Augusti in an unnamed position; this post was believed to have been linked to an annual income of 100,000 sesterces .

The tombstone was erected by Lucius Biesius Attalus , Lucius Vibius Theodotus and Lucius Vibius Symphorus ; the latter was a freedman from Apronianus.
