Ludwig von Flüe (Fr .: Louis de Flue, also: Ludwig Ignaz von Flüe; * March 10, 1752 in Sachseln ( Obwalden ); † April 1, 1817 ibid) was the commanding officer of the Swiss Guard in the defense of the Bastille and therefore led also the name Ludwig von Flüe le Bastillien .

family

Ludwig von Flüe was born as one of the three children of Johann Wolfgang von Flüe and his third wife Marie Barbara Blättler. He also had 15 half-siblings. Von Flüe was a direct descendant of Niklaus von Flüe .

From 1766 to 1792 Ludwig von Flüe was an officer in the Flües family company in France. On the orders of Bernard-René Jordan de Launay he handed over the surrender of the Bastille garrison through the gate to the insurgents when the Bastille was attacked on July 14, 1789 . From 1792 to 1799 Ludwig von Flüe was in English service, from 1816 he was again Guard Captain in French service.
