The air strikes in France on May 26, 1944 were a United States Army Air Forces operation during World War II in southeastern France .

Their purpose was to destroy traffic routes and especially of railway junctions in France in order to make it more difficult for the German army command to move new forces to western France, where the Allied High Command planned to land in Normandy .

About 900 aircraft flew from airfields in southern Italy to France on May 26, 1944 and bombed the ordered targets and their surroundings in the late morning with varying effects. Consolidated B-24 and Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers were involved .
