"Silbervogel" 1938–1968

history

Since 1882 there has been a steep road through the Stooswald on the Stoss. In 1938 the Morschach – Stoos cable car was built, which was also called the old “Rüti-Bähnli”, “Silbervogel” or “Swiss Air”. It could take three to four people or 200 kg. In the 1960s, the operating license was revoked, so that the railway had to cease operations in 1968. For 13 years there was no cable car connection from Morschach to the Stoos.

Today's cable car was built by Garaventa and installed in 1981 on almost the same route as its predecessor. In seven minutes it leads over 475 meters in altitude from Morschach to the Stoos . With its two cabins for 15 people each, it can transport 150 passengers per hour. The horizontal length from the valley to the mountain station is 2200 meters and the mean gradient is 22.9%.
