Aviation security fee

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aviation security fee (also known as airport security fee) is charged for searching passengers and their luggage at airports to protect against attacks on the security of air traffic (Section 5 Aviation Security Act, Aviation Security Act). This fee is collected by the airline from the passenger by adding the amount to the flight price.

The legal basis is the Aviation Security Fee Ordinance (LuftSiGebV) of May 23, 2007 in conjunction with the annex to § 1 number 2 of the LuftSiGebV.

The fee varies, depending on the number of passengers at the airport and the location of the security controls (central or directly at the gate). The amount varies from EUR 2.00 to EUR 10.00 (No. 2 of the Annex to Section 1 of the LuftSiGebV). The fee mainly finances personnel, equipment and operating costs for the security control of departing air passengers .
