Air bubble system

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Air jet systems are used in a water to generate rising or a water-filled basin bubbles. Air bubble systems have a technical benefit as a protection system in hydraulic engineering , especially in the area of locks , docks and technical installations. In swimming pool construction, especially in leisure pools, air bubble systems are used as design elements or to massage the visitors.

functionality

All air bubble systems, regardless of the area of application, work on the same principle. With the help of one or more compressors , air is fed under pressure into a hose or pipe system that is laid on or in the bottom of the body of water or the basin. The lines are provided with small holes at the points where the air should bubble. As the length of the perforated line increases, the required compressor power increases. The technical use of air bubble systems is often a significantly cheaper alternative to, if at all possible, ice-proof constructions.

Noise reduction during pile driving

In hydraulic engineering, rising air bubbles are used on the one hand to prevent ice formation on the water surface. Such systems are also referred to as compressed air ice-free systems. The bubbles keep the water moving and create an upward current, which in winter brings warmer water to the surface at the bottom of the water. This prevents icing in the immediate vicinity of the bubbling air. Such air bubble systems are usually arranged in a line and hold z. B. Areas around lock gates are free of ice and ensure that these gates can be moved without restrictions even in frosty conditions. Another example is keeping marinas free of ice in the area of the jetties.

On the other hand, also arranged in a line, the bubbles from an air bubble system represent a barrier for floating debris that can nevertheless be easily crossed by watercraft. Movable fixtures such. B. at locks to be protected from flotsam.

Air bubble systems are also used during noisy work on construction sites for offshore structures , e.g. B. during the ramming of stakes, and the explosive ordnance disposal under water. A bubble curtain is placed around the source of the noise to dampen the propagation of sound. These measures serve to protect marine animals that can be disturbed by the high noise level. These air bubble systems will be used during the construction period and will be dismantled after completion.

Air bubble systems in swimming pool construction

Air bubble systems are used in various areas in swimming pool construction. Examples are air bubble columns in the middle of the pool or whirlpools into which air bubbles are introduced over the entire surface.
