Lupus I. (Aquitaine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lupus I (Basque: Lope , French: Loup ; † around 675) was a duke in parts of Aquitaine and Gascony in the 7th century .

Lupus rebelled against the Dux Felix before 673 and took control of Toulouse and the Vascones (Gascogne) that had settled to the west . In the year 673 he supported the rebellion of the "tyrant" Paul against the sovereignty of the Visigoth king Wamba in Septimania and besieged Béziers . Between the years 673 and 675 he took part in a council of the Aquitaine episcopate in Bordeaux . While trying to subjugate Limoges to his rule, Lupus was probably killed in 675 or shortly thereafter.

The next reigning Duke in Aquitaine was Eudo , who first appeared around the year 710.
